Shiny Red Necklace of Doom

I wished I had one, like on this page of Xylia. And then I realised, pfft! I should get off me arse and make one. So I did.

iPod Nano Cosy Knitting Pattern

Ah hurrah, I've finally made one of these! I've been trying to make one for some time, but all the patterns I could find were for the bigger ipods. I'm going to try to add a small pocket to the front to put the head phones in, but for now here is the pattern without a pocket.

  • You will need:
    • 5mm (US 8) (UK 6) double pointed needles
    • Aran weight yarn
    • Thread (similar to the colour of the yarn)
    • Stitch marker
    • Sewing needle
    • Darning needle
    • 1cm wide button
  • The bottom:
    • Cast on 11 stitches
    • Knit two rows
    • Pick up 1 stitch from the edge of the piece, on a new needle
    • Pick up 11 stitches from the cast on edge, on a new needle
    • Pick up 1 last stitch from the other edge, on a new needle
    • 24 stitches altogether at this point
    • Put on a stitch marker
    • Purl 1 row in the round til you come back to the stitch marker
  • The main section:
    • Knit for 3.5inchs or 9cms in the round, finishing at the stitch marker, and remove it
    • Cast off 13 stitches
  • The flap:
    • Knit the remaining 11 stitches
    • Purl one row
    • Next row, k1, k2tog, k5, k2tog, k1 (9 stitches remain)
    • Purl one row
    • Next row, k1, k2tog, k3, k2tog, k1 (7 stitches remain)
    • Purl one row
    • Knit the next row, but cast off the central stitch
    • Next row, p3, yarn over, p3
    • Knit one row
    • Cast off
  • Finishing up:
    • Sew in the loose ends of yarn
    • Bend over the flap to find the place you should sew on the button
    • Sew on the button with thread
    • Hurrah completion!

KnittingHelp.com has a really good glossary and lots of video tutorials, if some of the short hand properties above don't make sense.

Pencil Case

Got sick of biro ink getting all over the inside of my bag and gradually making everything I own grubby, so I finally made a pencil case. It was loosely inspired by this pattern, but I modified it a whole lot. It's much narrower, longer, has a different number of buttons, and a few other smaller changes.
I think I'll try to knit an ipod case in a similar way, but with even more adjustments, like maybe a pocket or pouch for the earphones. If I manage this, I'll record the pattern in case anyone else wants it.

Small flash animation, letters and shapes and stuff, only a few seconds long.

Mmm, looks a bit too fast, I might slow it down and upload it again later.

Chip Shop

Made this today, it's a very simple design with very few graphics. A good practice exercise for a simple web form with a couple of simple calculations in it. I was fairly happy with how it turned out. The colours used are blue and white, because they remind me of salt and vinegar, which remind me of chips. Mmmm chips...cloggy goodness...

Skeleton Gloves

These are a present that have been made for a couple of weeks now but I forgot to post. They're skeleton gloves, knitted more or less according to this pattern, and then embroidered with white yarn to give the effect of finger bones. I had to adjust the pattern a bit to make them suitable for a full grown fella though, instead of a child.
